Propane gas safety usage instructions: Follow proper procedures to prevent risks
Propane is an easily flammable and explosive gas widely used in catering, industry, and outdoor operations. Its density is greater than that of air. After leakage, it tends to accumulate in low-lying areas and can easily cause explosions and fires upon encountering a source of ignition. It also poses risks of frostbite and asphyxiation. To ensure proper operation and prevent accidents, all operators must strictly follow the following safety instructions.
I. Safety Characteristics Information
The explosion limit of propane is 2.1% - 9.5% (vol). It极易 explodes and burns when exposed to open flames, static electricity, or high temperatures. Liquid propane can cause low-temperature frostbite when in contact with the skin. High concentrations of propane in confined spaces can lead to oxygen deficiency and asphyxiation for personnel. Operators must be aware of the risks, follow the certification procedures for safe operation, and avoid侥幸psychology.
II. Safety Storage of Gas Cylinders
1. The storage area should be well-ventilated, cool, and far from fire sources and heat sources. The environmental temperature should be ≤ 40℃. Steel cylinders must not be exposed to direct sunlight or heated by any means.
2. Steel cylinders must be stored upright and fixed. They must not be placed horizontally, inverted, rolled, or collided.
3. Steel cylinders must not be stored together with flammable and explosive gases such as oxygen and acetylene or corrosive gases. Empty and full cylinders should be placed in separate areas and clearly marked.
4. Appropriate fire-fighting equipment such as dry powder fire extinguishers and fire blankets should be available. Warning signs should be posted. Steel cylinders that are expired, damaged, leaking, or obsolete must not be used.
III. Safety Operating Procedures
1. Before use, check that the cylinder, pressure reducer, hose, and stove are in good condition without damage or leakage. The operation area should be well-ventilated and free of flammable and explosive debris.
2. Specialized high-pressure gas hoses should be laid out in a standard manner. Aging, damaged, or unauthorized splicing should be avoided. Avoid crushing, bending, or exposure to high temperatures.
3. Do not use in basements, enclosed rooms, or other enclosed spaces without ventilation. Maintain a safe distance between the cylinder and the gas equipment.
4. Open the valve slowly and gently. Do not use violent operations. Have a dedicated person on duty during the operation. Do not leave the post or use the equipment overnight.
5. Do not privately modify equipment, pour residual liquids, or dismantle safety valves. Do not smoke, use open flames, or create static electricity or friction sparks in the operation area.
6. After the operation is completed, immediately close the main valve of the cylinder, evacuate the residual gas from the pipeline, and confirm there are no hazards before leaving the site.
IV. Safety During Transportation and Handling
Handle the cylinders gently. Do not throw, drag, or roll them. Prohibited is lifting the valve to transport them. For bulk transportation, use dedicated hazardous materials vehicles. Ensure they are securely fixed. Prohibited are unlicensed transportation, mixed transportation of hazardous chemicals, and allowing cylinders to enter elevators, enclosed compartments, or crowded areas.
V. Emergency Response for Leakage
1. If there is a leak or odor, immediately close the main valve of the cylinder, open the windows to disperse the gas.
2. Do not switch electrical appliances, make phone calls, change clothes, or use open flames in the leakage area. Eliminate all sources of fire.
3. Use soapy water to detect the leakage point. Prohibited are using open flames to check for leaks or splashing water to check for leaks.
4. If the leakage is large and there is fire or smoke, immediately evacuate the personnel, set up a cordon, and extinguish the initial small fire with a dry powder fire extinguisher or fire blanket. If the fire gets out of control, immediately call 119 for emergency assistance.
5. If personnel are frostbitten or asphyxiated, transfer them to a safe and ventilated area and call 120 for emergency assistance.
VI. Daily Safety Management
Implement a dedicated person management system and a daily inspection system. Daily inspections should be conducted to identify and address equipment, pipeline, and fire-fighting equipment hazards. Replace aging components regularly and calibrate cylinders on schedule. Regularly conduct safety training and emergency drills. Do not use equipment with faults. It must be repaired and maintained by professionals.
The safety of propane lies in standardization and prevention. All users must strictly adhere to safety procedures. Regularly identify and eliminate hazards. Avoid illegal operations and fully ensure personal and property safety.
